I’d like to update you about the proposed Canadian Championships to be hosted on March 19 to 21 by Télémark Québec and to find out who is interested in going.

Given that the weekend is at the close of the school break for many here in Ontario, and that holding an additional race on the Friday evening would be logistically very difficult, TSO and Télémark Québec propose activities for Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21.

Télémark Québec has confirmed that they are able to host a race at Mt Blanc (www.skimontblanc.com/english/index.php), about an hours drive north of Montreal, on Sunday, March 21. The race won’t be a Canadian Championship per se but it will still be a great event. On Saturday, we propose to either hold training or a free ski, possibly at Mt Tremblant with members of both groups.

There is always the chance that the race will be cancelled due to poor conditions or that the ski areas may be closed or have limited terrain. Télémark Québec reserves the right to make the decision to cancel or modify the activities at the last moment.

If you are interested in going and are willing to accept the uncertainty involved, please let me know as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for Telemark Ski Ontario and Télémark Québec members to meet and to ski together.

With the assistance of Holly Blefgen of Ski Telemark, we might put together a travel/accommodation package. Accommodation in the area is plentiful and there should be no problem to find something even if booked at the last moment. Car pooling is always an option.

There are also a number of other events being held in Québec this winter:

• Although it is short notice, there is a Telemark Festival at Mt Comi (http://www.telefestmontcomi.weebly.com/) this Friday through Sunday, February 19 to 21. There will a sanctioned race on Friday and an open race on Saturday. This event attracts thousands of Telemarkers.
• There is also a Telemark Festival at Mt Edouard (www.montedouard.com) from Friday, March 5 to Sunday, March 7. This is one of the major events in Telemark in the East.

As a reminder, your membership in TSO allows you to register for the sanctioned races hosted by the Télémark Québec (www.telemarkquebec.qc.ca) clubs. Helmets are mandatory.
